Ken Yanagisawa, MD, FACS has practiced Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) at SNEENT since 1993, and has served as the Managing Partner since 2015. He was born in New Haven, CT and grew up in the Greater New Haven area. He attended Hopkins School, graduated cum laude from Cornell University, and received his medical degree from University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Yanagisawa completed his internship in general surgery and residency in Otolaryngology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Yanagisawa is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
Dr. Yanagisawa is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS). He is Past President of the Connecticut Ear Nose and Throat Society, Past President of the New England Otolaryngological Society, Past President of the UConn Medical Alumni Association, Past Chair of the Board of Governors of AAO-HNS, Past Chair of the Socioeconomic and Grassroots Committee of the Board of Governors of AAO-HNS, Past Secretary of the Board of Governors, AAO-HNS. He served as President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery from 2021-2022 and served on the Academy's Board of Directors (BOD) and presided over the Executive Committee of the BOD. He is also very active in legislative affairs, serving for many years as the Legislative Co-Chair of the CT ENT Society and 3 sister societies, and a CT State Legislative Tracker for the AAO-HNS. He served on the State of Connecticut Health Information Technology Advisory Council. Dr. Yanagisawa is a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society, Community Medical Group, and the New Haven County Medical Association. He is a member of the American Rhinologic Society, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, the Politzer Society, the American Association of Otolaryngologic Allergy, and the American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology. He has attending privileges at 4 hospitals (Griffin, Middlesex, Midstate, Yale New Haven), and continues to serve as Chief of Otolaryngology at Saint Raphael Campus, Yale New Haven Hospital (since 2009). He has served as an elected member of the Yale New Haven Hospital Medical Board and the Medical Board Administrative Committee for 6 consecutive years, as well as serving on multiple YNHH committees. For many years, he coordinated and staffed the Oral Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week free head and neck screenings for patients throughout the state at multiple different hospital sites. Dr. Yanagisawa has been recognized by his peers as one of Connecticut Magazine’s Top Doctors from 2013-2017, and 2021-2024. He is a Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Dr. Yanagisawa was also recognized by his peers as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor from 2017-present. Dr. Yanagisawa has published over 90 original articles and books chapters and served as an editorial reviewer for Ear Nose and Throat Journal and the Laryngoscope. He takes great pride in editing and publishing his father's autobiography entitled "A Half Century of My American Life as an Otolaryngologist: A Pictorial Autobiography" by Dr Eiji Yanagisawa. He enjoys treating all aspects of General Otolaryngology in pediatric and adult patients, with a particular interest in endoscopic sinus surgery, and treating children. He enjoys teaching medical students and residents about otolaryngology and practice management. Dr. Yanagisawa is married to Dr Julia Shi and they have 5 children. He is a USA Swimming official, Starter, and certified computer operator/Administrative official. He has also served as Vice President of the Woodbridge Little League and coached a travel softball team for over a decade, serving as Head Coach for 8 years. He enjoys landscaping/gardening/lawncare, bicycling and Zwifting/spinning, photography, magic, and hiking. |
