SURGERY PATIENTS

 When a surgery has been scheduled with one of our physicians at the Southern New England Ear, Nose, Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Group, LLP, please follow the directions given below. 

• Schedule an appointment with your primary care physician for the pre-operative physical.  This must be done within 30 days, but no less than 7 days prior to your surgery date.  *If surgery is at Hospital of Saint Raphael, then pre-op physical must be completed within 14 days of surgery. You may also require blood work, EKG, Chest X-ray. 

• Contact your insurance company .  Confirm your policy is active.  Understand your responsibilities for out-patient and in-patient hospital co-pays, deductibles & out of pocket expenses.  Make sure the hospital and physician are in-network.  Our office will obtain any necessary pre-authorization. 

• Hospital will call the day before surgery to notify time of arrival and where to go.  **We must have your current phone numbers in case we need to contact you.** 

• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery.  Even a sip of water can cancel surgery. 

• Discontinue any medications which may thin the blood such as Aspirin products and/or Ibuprofen products (Advil, Motrin), Aleve, as well as Vitamin E or herbal products 2 weeks prior to surgery.  Tylenol is perfectly safe to use up until the time of surgery.     **If you are taking Coumadin, or any blood thinning medicine, check with your primary care physician and your ear, nose and throat doctor about how to adjust the dosing around the time of surgery. 

• Wear comfortable clothing.  Leave jewelry and valuables at home.  Bring your ID and insurance information.  Button up or zip up clothing is recommended so you will not have to pull anything over your head.  Someone must accompany you and drive you home. 

Our office must receive all the completed pre-op paperwork and test results no later than 2 days prior to surgery.
